NameSurfer 7.6.4.1

This function allows you to transfer DNS zones into NameSurfer using AXFR. That transfer is made from an existing name server and thus NameSurfer must have access to that server without any firewalls or ACLs blocking the way. The function transfers both forward and reverse DNS zones including classless reverse zones and IPv6 reverse ip6.arpa.

You need to provide a source file for the import. There are three formats currently supported:

  • Plain text file
  • BIND 9 configuration file (named.conf) containining zone definitions. Views are not currently supported
  • NSD 3 configuration file (nsd.conf) containining zone definitions

After this, please choose the view into which the zones are imported.

Optionally, you can fill out the name or the IP address for the name server to be used, or you can let FusionLayer NameSurfer search for suitable servers by leaving it blank.

Please note that each zone-transfer may take a while if the network-connection is slow or zone is really large.

You may also choose whether to use the default port 53 to make the zone-transfer to or change it to some non-standard. For example if you are transfering data from another FusionLayer NameSurfer directly, use 8054.

With the checkbox located at the bottom, you can create or delete reverse maps automatically. When selected, only the PTR-records are created – but not the zones – so reverse-zones should be created/imported before forward-zones.
