Add many objects
The Add many objects tool can be used to add a number of objects in one go.
In the initial version the tool supports filling an IP range within an IPAM address block with hosts. While adding the IPAM hosts, matching DNS host entries (A/AAAA records) can also be created if desired, provided that the IPAM block has a default DNS zone and hostname pattern defined. Similarly, reverse DNS PTR records can be created for each IPAM host added, provided that a corresponding reverse zone already exists in NameSurfer. Adding objects using the toolFirst select the IPAM block you wish to add hosts into from the "Containing block" dropdown. You can also start typing the beginning of the block's IP address (prefix) into the field, and have it offer autocompletion for the list of blocks matching the typing. Once the IPAM block is selected, the First address and Last address fields are automatically filled. You can edit these addresses by hand as well. You can also edit the number in the Host count field by typing, clicking the up and down arrow buttons, or moving the text cursor into the field and then adjusting the value using the up and down arrow keys or the PageUp and PageDown keys. The value will also be adjusted when you drag the slider below. Changes in the Host count field will adjust the Last address field value. Please note: the maximum number of hosts you can add at once is limited to 255. If the selected block's size is smaller, the limit will be reduced to the block size. Illegal values are highlighted using a yellow background colour. You should adjust the values so that no fields indicate an illegal value. Please note: when editing the value by typing, the new value gets set only after you move the focus (cursor) away from the edited field, e.g. by pressing the Tab key or clicking outside the field with the mouse. Any resulting adjustments to other fields' values are also not made until then. Once the IP range is set to desired values, you may choose to to tick the optional checkboxes "Create DNS hosts (A/AAAA)" and/or "Create DNS reverse records (PTR)". See above for prerequisites for these options. Click the Create hosts button in order to fill the range with hosts. The operation is run on the server. This may take a while if there are many hosts to create. When complete, a list containing each IP address in the chosen range will be displayed, along with the result of the host create operation for each address. The heading text above the address list states the summary of the operation's results. Creating a host may fail for some addresses, typically due to an existing host with that address. The status and reason for any failures will be indicated in the list. |
