NameSurfer 7.6.4.1

Introduction

Block usage statistics are available in divisible and addressed blocks. The information is displayed in a textual summary of the whole block and a chart section. The chart type can be selected between matrix or bar chart.

The matrix is divided into maximum of 256 units each representing one or more IP addresses. Detailed information on each unit can be viewed in each unit's tooltip by placing the mouse cursor on top of the unit. The available information and the possible allocation states for the units vary between block types. Network and broadcast addresses in subnets are considered neither allocated nor free. For details, please see the paragraphs below.

The bar chart always displays only percentual statistics. The available information and the possible allocation states vary between block types. For details, please see the paragraphs below.

Divisible blocks

In divisible blocks the following allocation types can be present in the matrix chart:

  • Unallocated - No IP addresses in the range covered by this unit are allocated.
  • Reserved - There is at least one block reserved in the range covered by this unit, but no IP addresses are allocated.
  • Partially allocated - There is at least one block reserved or delegated in the range covered by this unit and at least one IP address is allocated in some of the blocks.
  • Delegated - The range covered by this unit is completely delegated.
  • Fully allocated - The range covered by this unit is fully allocated. There are no free IP addresses.
  • Network or broadcast address - The unit represents a single IP address reserved for a network or a broadcast address.

In divisible blocks the following allocation types can be present in the bar chart:

  • Unallocated - The percentage of unallocated IP addresses.
  • Reserved - The percentage of IP addresses in reserved blocks.
  • Delegated - The percentage of IP addresses in delegated blocks.

The statistics for both matrix and bar chart are always percentual when displaying divisible blocks.

Addressed blocks

In addressed blocks, the following allocation types can be present in the matrix chart:

  • Unallocated - No IP addresses in the range covered by this unit are allocated.
  • Partially allocated - At least one IP address is allocated in the range covered by this unit.
  • Fully allocated, various types of hosts - The range covered by this unit is fully allocated by both dns and ip hosts. There are no free IP addresses.
  • Dynamic range - The range covered by this unit is completely a part of DHCP dynamic range(s). Dynamic range can be present in a unit at the same time as one of the other allocation states.
  • IPAM host(s) - The unit is completely allocated as IPAM host(s). There are no other types of hosts allocated.
  • DNS host(s) - The unit is completely allocated as DNS host(s). There are no other types of hosts allocated.
  • Network or broadcast address - The unit represents a single IP address reserved for a network or a broadcast address.

The matrix chart displays detailed usage information on each unit as tooltips. The type displayed, percentage or number of addressess can be selected by the user.

In addressed blocks, the following allocation types can be present in the bar chart:

  • Unallocated - The percentage of unallocated IP addresses.
  • Allocated in dynamic ranges - The percentage of IP addresses allocated in a dynamic ranges.
  • Allocated outside dynamic ranges - The percentage of IP addresses allocated outside a dynamic ranges.

The statistics for bar chart are always percentual when displaying address blocks. One item in the chart represents one percent of the block.
