NameSurfer 7.6.4.1

A host is an entity consisting from a single IP address and attached information fields. It can also be an automatic entry representing an address located within the boundaries of a block but existing only as DNS data. Adding informational data to such a host will cause automatic creation of a permanent IPAM host entity. Showing DNS addresses as hosts in IPAM can be disabled in the IPAM.properties configuration file.

Host entities can exist in IPAM only within address blocks. There can be only one host entity for a single IP address, unless the address is within a private IP block.

If the address block containing the host is bound to a DHCP server, the host can have a DHCP host name, MAC address and additional DHCP host description added to it. A dynamic DHCP host in a bound block will show as a host entry with MAC address but no DHCP host name - it can be converted into a static DHCP host by adding the DHCP host name to the appropriate input box.

If a host entry in a DHCP bound block doesn't have a DHCP host name or a MAC address, it isn't currently associated with any DHCP host entry or lease on the bound DHCP server.
