The IP Address Management module shows the information stored in the IP address management
database. The navigation is divided into three main sections, Root blocks,
Owners, and a link to users' Display preferences.
They can be accessed by selecting them from the main menu subsections.
The breadcrumb trail located just below the page title shows the current location in the system, and
acts as links to the path components.
The Root blocks page displays a list of IP blocks and
(existing inside the IP blocks) hosts which are arranged in a hierarchical manner.
Depending on the contents, the lists display a number of subsections containing more detailed information on:
The block list table consists by default of the following information, which can be sorted by clicking on the
column titles located on the list header and footer:
Owner: the name of the block's owner
Address: the network address of the block. In the case of IPv4 addresses, this is an octet notation separated by dots (RFC 791 and RFC 769).
In the case of IPv6 address this is a sixteen octet notation (RFC 2373).
IPv#: the IP address version of the block, either IPv4 or IPv6
Bitmask: the number of meaningful bits in the network address of this block (i.e. this is the latter part of the CIDR notation for this block)
Subnet: specifies whether this block has been assigned as a subnet
The user accounts can also be assigned to display additional information fields
in the block lists in either all in a single one or each in it's separate column by selecting them from the User account page,
or by clicking the Display preferences section in the main navigation. If the information fields are shown in separate columns
their sorting can be toggled between ascending/descending alphabetic and alphanumerical order by clicking the column header.
You can select any of the root blocks
in the table to see its contents. When listing content (for both root blocks and their sub-blocks)
a list of information fields is displayed
in addition to the blocks that may be present. The values for these fields can be set or cleared
by clicking the link displaying the current value
(or Insert value if no value has been set) if they are
mutable. Permanent
information fields cannot be removed, altough they may have empty values.
The Root blocks (and the subblocks') page navigation shows options to add new block, export and import
data to and from IP Address Management. You can also view the IPAM data a Tree view report
form instead of the default cascading list with columns. The links to Change log,
Address report and Free subnet report
are also available in the main navigation's this subsection.
The Display preferences acts as a link to the currently logged user's
account management page which
lists available selections for displaying IP Address management information.
Adding new blocks and owners
You can add new blocks and owners by clicking the designated links located in the main menu
subsections.
