NameSurfer 7.6.4.1

The Remote Server configuration page is used to make changes to the DNS and/or DHCP server configuration files.

On the main level the page contains an overview of the server's current configuration and links to the currently included configuration items. By clicking on the name of the specific configuration item, you will be displayed more information on that specific item, and you will be able to modify and/or remove it.

The breadcrumb trail is located on the top of the page. It can be used to navigate up the server's configuration hierarchy. The hierarchy is divided into the following levels and their contents:

  • Main level: configuration items
  • Second and following levels: parameters and/or containers (which may have another set of parameters and/or containers located in them). Items that can be set to a predefined order in the final configuration file also show a field labeled 'Order' next to them, showing the ordering preference of the item or 0 if no preference has been set.

The Add new entry located on the main navigation will add a new configuration item on the hierarchy level you are currently at. Also, the selection of the available items to be added depends on the current location in the hierarchy levels.

An example on how to make changes:
To add a new allow transfer configuration item that includes IP block, user will first click on either Options or Zone, then clicks on Add new entry on that level, then selects Allow transfer, and then moves inside the created Allow transfer container. The user then clicks Add new entry to add the IP block to the server.
Same navigational hierarchy principle applies also to editing the configuration items.

An example on how to apply the modifications:
When you make configuration changes using the FusionLayer NameSurfer interface, the modifications remain local in NameSurfer until you upload the configuration files to the server.

The correct process is as follows:

  • Make the modification(s)
  • Click Check configuration on the main navigation
  • Check if the result is ok. If so, click Upload configuration
  • Check if the result is ok. If so, click on DNS/DHCP Servers in order to move to the server list and click Reload icon in order to enable changes

The following items are available in the navigation:

DNS/DHCP Servers act as links to the Top hierarchy level. The pages list information on the servers' name, description and status, and include commands for starting, stopping and restarting them.

Display preferences allows you to choose the information fields displayed.

Server details will show the setup screen which includes options for server description, configuration parameters and SSH parameters.

Show active leases shows the list of leases which The Internet Software Consortium DHCP Server has assigned. This function is available only for Managed DHCP servers.

Check configuration function checks the configuration files for errors.

Upload configuration function uploads the locally stored configuration files to the server.

Preview configuration function displays the configuration file as plain text.

Add new entry displays a list from where to choose new configuration items. An user-defined configration entry is also available.

Change log allows you to view the changelog and undo some of the changes administrators have made to the configuration file. The information displayed is dependent upon the secondary servers selected.

The configuration of a selected Managed type server can be searched by entering a free word search pattern into the input field located at the bottom of the navigation menu and pressing the "Search" button next to it. Asterisk (*) can be used as a leading wildcard in the pattern. Trailing wildcard is not necessary. The search is recursive in the location the user is currently browsing, and it is performed against both declaration names and values.
