This page is used to manage Remote Servers controlled by NameSurfer. The page allows you to list, add, remove servers of each type and manage servers using process control features.
NameSurfer supports managing FusionLayer DNS, BIND, ISC DHCPD Server and Microsoft DHCP Server through this user interface. Each server can be managed with a different method:
FusionLayer DNS serverWhen NameSurfer and FusionLayer DNS are installed together to form the basic DNS infrastructure, SNS configuration is managed locally in SNS and NameSurfer updates the configuration remotely whenever necessary. This loose integration gives the best usability and flexibility for DNS administration. When new Master-zones are added to NameSurfer, selected SNS servers are automatically configured with this new information and restarted. This function REQUIRES ssh keys to be transferred manually from NameSurfer to each SNS. Best way to transfer keys is to print the key in NameSurfer, save it as a file and use SNS UI to upload the file. When other configuration changes (for example adjusting ACLs) are needed to be made to FusionLayer DNS, they can be done locally in SNS, NameSurfer only offers a link to SNS WebUI. (The link URL must be filled by the administrator) Microsoft DHCP serverMicrosoft DHCP is supported as a managed DHCP server, meaning all configuration control is done from the FusionLayer NameSurfer WebUI. Process control of the Microsoft DHCP is not available though NameSurfer. When adding a Microsoft DHCP to NameSurfer you MUST provide the following authentication information :
Standalone BIND/DHCP ServersThis mode is to loosely integrate all related DNS Servers to NameSurfer, this is very useful for integrating third-party appliances with WebUI or BIND Servers with local configuration management. The servers are listed here to keep record of DNS servers relating to the DNS Infrastructure. Managed BIND/DHCPThis is RemSec as it's known to NameSurfer users, configuration of these servers is managed in NameSurfer Database and changes are made using NameSurfer configuration interface. New configuration will not be effective until it has been uploaded to each server successfully. These servers can be automatically configured for new zones. Managed Secure64 DNSSecure64 DNS is supported as a Managed DNS Server, meaning that all configuration and process control is done from the FusionLayer NameSurfer WebUI. Secure64 DNS is a high-performance, secure and authoritative-only DNS Server that serves very well as a DNS secondary for a FusionLayer NameSurfer hidden master. Legacy bindconf serversThis mode is for legacy reasons only, configuration style used in NameSurfer 3.x is still used by some servers and thus should be configured as legacy bindconf servers. It is also possible to transfer those old servers as Managed BIND, ask FusionLayer NameSurfer Support for more details. Configuration templatesFor BIND and DHCPD, configuration templates can be stored into the Database. These templates can be used when creating a new server. Templates can also be easily modified from the UI. |
