NameSurfer 7.6.4.1

DHCID (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Information) records are created and updated by a DHCP server that updates DNS data of an associated host using Dynamic DNS. The DHCP server(s) will use this data to identify their own records and differentiate them from records that are possibly owned by other DHCP server(s) or created as static entries.

Some DHCP servers use the TXT record for this purpose instead of the specially designated DHCID record.

The record is an SHA-256 hash of host identification data from the DHCP server, presented as a BASE64 -encoded string. There is no human readable data in this record, and it has no purpose outside the scope of DHCP server(s) doing dynamic DNS updates.
