On the user account page, you can add, remove or modify a FusionLayer NameSurfer user account. The users can belong to one or several groups which administer the access rights and restrictions to FusionLayer NameSurfer's modules and their contents.
The installation script creates the default group called "admingroup" and one user in this group - the username and password for this user are input during installation. This default user is capable of creating new groups and users, and we recommend that a personal user account is created for each administrator even if they all belong to the "admingroup".
On the user page you can add or remove FusionLayer NameSurfer user accounts or change their attributes which are divided in tabs by context. General, DNS and IPAM tabs are always displayed. In addition, there is a tab for each remote server type that has at least one corresponding server configured in the Remote servers module. The contents of each of the tabs are described below.
General tab
The account name, for example, "john". The name does not need to correspond to any UNIX account name. Accepted characters are letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and underline (_). Space cannot be used.
The password to be used when logging into FusionLayer NameSurfer using a WWW browser. The password should be chosen with care similar to that of a UNIX account. The password will be echoed as a string of asterisks "*". When the page is reopened later, the standard number of five asterisks is shown, though, regardless of the real number of the characters in the password. By editing this field, the passwords can be changed any time.
First name(s), Last name(s) and User description are optional text input fields, but they help to identify a user.
Status: An user account is enabled by default. If there is a need to temporarily disable the account, it may be done here by switching the status to disabled. With their accounts in disabled status, users cannot enter the WebUI and are unable to make any changes to the system.
Groups: If javascript is enabled and NameSurfer has more than 10 groups: The groups section displays the first 10 groups that the user belongs to. If the user belongs to more than 10 groups a '...' is displayed at the end. User's groups can be edited by pressing the edit button which opens a new window. From this window you can add or remove groups providing that you have sufficient access rights. Remember to save your changes after closing the edit window. If javascript is disabled or NameSurfer has less than 10 groups: All groups will appear with checkboxes in front of the their names. You can modify the user's groups by ticking or unticking checkboxes.
Login section: The Login section setting allows choosing which main menu section is automatically opened when user logs into NameSurfer using the default URL. By default, main menu is selected.
Allow fallback to local password on LDAP failure: If the system is configured to use LDAP authentication, a single user account may be configured to allow login using the local password if the LDAP fails. If LDAP authentication is not configured, this selection will not be displayed at all. To set up a local password for the user, this option must be enabled first and saved, then the user page will display the password field for the user as well.
DNS tab
Host template: The name of an existing host to be use as a template when creating new hosts. New hosts will be given default initial data similar to that of the given template host. This is particularly useful as a way of giving each new host a standard set of MX records.
Any existing host can be used as a template, but it is a good idea to create one or more dedicated "template hosts" that do not correspond to any physical machine. The template hosts can be created in any zone maintained in the same FusionLayer NameSurfer. A large site may even want to create a separate zone just for templates.
Any A records of the template host are ignored. Instead, the IP address of the new host is determined by the usual IP address allocation mechanism.
If the host template setting is not used, or the template host does not exist, new hosts have no default data.
Zone template: The name of an existing zone to use as a template when creating new zones. New zones will be given default initial data similar to that of the given template zone. This is particularly useful as a way of giving each new zone a standard set of MX records and NS records.
Any existing zone can be used as a template, but you can also create one or more dedicated "template zones".
If the zone template setting is not used, or the template zone does not exist, new zones have no default data.
By marking a checkbox next to a record type FusionLayer NameSurfer can be set individually for each user to display different types of information on module content lists and content information pages. All checkboxes per listing can be marked or unmarked by using buttons All and None. The resource record types and listings used in FusionLayer NameSurfer are described below.
Resource record types:
Zone list: The resource record types displayed when viewing the list of zones in FusionLayer NameSurfer.
Zone contents: The resource record types displayed when viewing the contents of a single zone.
Zone and node edit page: The resource record input fields displayed when adding or editing a zone or a node on the Node page. NOTE! If a resource record has been added into a zone or a node using the Add RR function, it will be shown on the Node page even if that particular resource record type checkbox is left unmarked on the user page.
IPAM tab
In addition to the default settings, each user can be assigned access to IP Addresses module contents as explained below.
By selecting a subsection from the available list it will be displayed as a default when entering an IPAM block or a host page.
By marking a checkbox next to an information field FusionLayer NameSurfer can be set individually for each user to display them in Block and Host listings. All checkboxes per each of them can be marked or unmarked by using buttons All and None.
If a preferred information field no longer exists in the system, it will remain in user's settings until it has been remove from user's preferences. On the preferences page such an item will be disabled and printed out with strikethrough over the label text. When the user preferences are saved by clicking OK on the page, non-existent information preferences will be automatically removed, and will no longer be available in preferences or listings.
By marking a checkbox next to an information field FusionLayer NameSurfer can be set individually for each user to display them in Block, Host and Owner listings. All checkboxes per each of them can be marked or unmarked by using buttons All and None.
